Moving from food security to nutrition security A food system can only be truly sustainable if it delivers adequate nutrition to every individual it serves. This key, but often overlooked, aspect of (nutritional) sustainability is as important as environmental and economic sustainability. Prof McNabb will demonstrate how we can move from discussing food security to discussing nutrition security, at the resolution of individual macro and micronutrients that we need to be adequately fed, and not at risk of the health complications that accompany inadequate nutrition. | Warren McNabb, Professor of Nutritional Sciences, Riddet Institute |
Practical profitable solutions for the farm The three pillars of Fonterra long-term plans are a continued focus on New Zealand milk; to be a leader in sustainability; and be a leader in dairy innovation and science. Improving Fonterra's already world-leading carbon footprint requires an integrated approach across all three pillars. For greenhouse gas reducing solutions to be practical and profitable for the farm they must be good for the cow, good for the milk, good for the farmer and good for the planet, what we refer to as the Good4s. Examples of how Fonterra is using the Good4s to test a wide range of solutions will be discussed. | Jeremy Hill, Chief Science and Technology Officer, Fonterra |

A meaningful plan to address food waste Food waste is the winnable, actionable challenge that can slow climate change, reduce the cost of living and ensure all food we grow is eaten so that people are not going hungry. Prevention of wasted food is the low hanging fruit of our time, the challenge we can sink our teeth into now and reap the benefits tomorrow. Join Kaitlin, ED of NZ Champions 12.3 a charity that elevates and connects evidenced solutions to enable a resilient food system, as she walks us through actionable opportunities across the supply chain. | Kaitlin Dawson, Executive Director, NZ Food Waste Champions 12.3 |

A fireside chat with the co-founder of AllBirds Tim Brown went from being a professional football player to co-founding AllBirds: one of the biggest sustainability-focused retail success stories ever. Join this fireside chat with him and MC Jack Tame to learn more about his journey — and what not to do when you're trying to build a climate-friendly brand. | Tim Brown, Co-founder, Allbirds |
Transforming landscape design for climate change mitigation and rural resilience When we think about forestry for wood products and carbon capture, we usually think of large, monoculture pine forests. Sam McNally and his team at Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research think there's a better way to manage landscapes to mitigate climate change and provide additional co-benefits to maintain rural livelihoods. Overseas evidence backs them up — but will it work in New Zealand? | Sam McNally, Senior Researcher, Manaaki Whenua |
